DC Semester Q and A

Haley A Gillett
Spring 2011

Brief bio:

As a student from Georgia Tech, I was a bit of an unlikely person to attend the Washington Semester Program. I am happy to say that my time with 19 bulldogs was well spent. The program provided such hands on experience that is truly irreplaceable, and my subsequent internships and careers would not have happened without it.

Expected graduation:

May 2012

Degree objective:

B.S. Public Policy

Why I went:

I wanted to see what it would be like to live and breathe the DC life of politics and policy. I knew I would regret not spending time in DC if I went straight into a job in my hometown of Atlanta, so I thankfully got to fulfill that dream.

Favorite spot to visit:

Embassy Row, Dupont Circle

Most memorable day:

Visiting the CIA was a dream!

Why I'm glad I went:

The opportunity allowed me to bring what I had been learning in the classroom to reality. In addition, I learned so much very quickly; I wouldn’t have acquired as much insight into the political process without the hands on experience that WSP provided.

Where I interned:

American Planning Association
