DC Semester Q and A

Catherine G Warren
Fall 2014

I loved the opportunity to learn in a real-world setting.

Brief bio:

I hail from Avondale Estates/Decatur area of Atlanta, GA and lived their for my whole life until coming up to Athens for college.

Expected graduation:

August 2015

Degree objective:

Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and Anthropology, Spanish Minor

Why I went:

As much as I love Athens and campus, I wanted a break from the day-to-day scholarly life and a taste of the “real world” that we are often told about. In high school I had been lucky to enough to go to DC each of my four years for field trips (such as the 2009 Obama inauguration and NSPA’s student journalism conference) and I was itching to get back.

Favorite spot to visit:

Bookstores like Kramer’s and Capitol Hill Books. Eastern Market on the weekend. The National Mall. Good Stuff Eatery and any of the many Sweet Green locations.

Most memorable day:

One of my most memorable days was probably the day I waited around for Stephen Colbert to stop a segment filming with Georgia Representative Jack Kingston. Colbert was awesome and took photos with at least 20 eager interns.

Why I'm glad I went:

I’m glad I was a part of the Washington Semester Program because I discovered what it takes to make it in DC to some degree. One of my bosses at the firm I worked in was able to introduce me to several professionals who worked in areas in which I was interested

Where I interned:
